Explore French activism and photojournalism.

Join experienced French photojournalists from #Dysturb in a hands on two-day workshop at Footscray Community Arts Centre.

DAY ONE
You’ll learn how to create and improve on your reportage skills and how to quickly apply a critical approach to your photo essays, and accurately edit and caption your photographs. There will be a focus on the production of informed, relevant photo essays, and the development of compositionally sound images. They will also share tips for staying safe in turbulent areas.

DAY TWO
You will focus on community engagement through photography. Participants will learn about how to create socially engaged documentary storytelling and how to produce, and use, visual imagery to promote positive social change.

A panel discussion will conclude the workshop, in which Pierre and Benjamin will discuss how the dissemination of imagery can raise awareness about the issues facing refugees and asylum seekers, and also promote togetherness in the face of adverse times.

About #Dysturb

#Dysturb are a group of freelance photographers, who take current international photojournalism to the streets. The primary goal of #Dysturb is to make news stories accessible to the general public. By pasting large format photographs on the walls of city hubs, #Dysturb presents photojournalism in a new, innovative way, completely independent from the restrictions of conventional news publishing channels.

Photojournalism is a universal language, and it has the power to convey important information that can challenge stereotypes, initiate discussion and raise awareness to international issues. Currently, traditional media portals are struggling to invest in this medium, consequently #Dysturb conceived the idea to integrate news stories into the urban landscape, through street art. Not only can an audience physically interact with the visible pieces, but they can also interact with them virtually, through Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.
