Photobook Melbourne will move into a gallery space in January and hopes to celebrate and share this space with you.

In February 2015, we presented a ten-day festival across the city of Melbourne and loved every minute of it, but for 2016 we thought we would do things a bit differently. We applied to the City of Melbourne for an arts residency grant and were super excited when it came through – thank you City of Melbourne. This means for the first six months of 2016, we will have a gallery space to play, exhibit, discuss, experiment and share the work of photographers. We will move into our space in the middle of January and by the 4th of February 2016 we will open our doors with the #memory_archive exhibition and print swap.

We invite you to submit your image to #memory_archive – a global exchange project and exhibition.

What is a memory? It can be a treasured souvenir. It can also be an invented, or entirely distorted recollection of an experience. Memory lies somewhere in-between truth and fiction. For this exhibition we are calling for images to be sent in, that reference true, false or made up stories. This will be a showcase that collectively explores an in-depth reflection on personal, local & global events in 2015. The images will be installed in an exhibition, that creates and reflects on a collective memory. After the exhibition, we will re-distribute the fragments of these photographic memories. Each entrant will receive a print from the exhibition in return.
